The Photographer
Award winning photographer Ken Drake is Director and principal photographer at Photovation.
Having performed in bands, choirs, orchestras, on the stage and in the pit, Ken has gained a deep appreciation for the Performing Arts; this experience enables Ken to capture the essence of your performance in his images.
In his time, Ken has played trombone for the 1812, percussion for Guys and Dolls, drums in various bands in London’s premier music venues, Long John Silver in a musical version of Treasure Island, he has sung in St Paul’s Cathedral, been an extra in a movie and he is still the only person he knows who has sung all four parts in Handel’s Messiah (though not at the same time). However, not a single image of these performances exists, and Ken is determined that today’s performers won’t be left in a similar position.
Ken’s photos can be used in marketing materials including websites, brochures, foyer displays, CD covers and magazines and can also be sold to the public to generate an extra revenue stream. They also record a moment and achievement in your life that should never be forgotten.
Ken is an emerging member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and as such is governed by their code of conduct. He uses Canon professional series digital SLR cameras and lenses, Canon and Bowen lighting equipment, and his experience, patience and passion to get the best possible images of your performances.
Photovation
Photovation Pty Ltd has been set up to provide photographic services for all aspects of the Performing Arts world. We provide services to bands and other recording artists, schools, theatre companies, arts festivals and dance companies. We specialise in promotional photos, headshots, action photos and event photography, and are we are fully mobile. Photographic shoots can happen at your theatre, studio, rehersal room, at our studio, or on location anywhere.
Photovation have worked with many Perth theatre companies including Playlovers, the Old Mill Theatre and the Garrick Theatre. We are the official photographers for the Independent Theatre Association, and covered the Finley Awards for them. We have also been official photographers for the Awesome Arts festival, and worked on the set of The Eleventh Soldier film set. We also work with schools in the Perth area.
